The Crocheted Steek
Honestly, I don’t cut up all my knitting. In fact, this is only the second time I’ve ever done so. But since I had a sweater to cut up, a camera with a nifty macro setting, and a blog, I figured I might as well throw the process up here for the edification of anybody [...]

I’m not dead yet…
So the last four days have been eventful, but not particularly bloggable. Let’s just say that it’s hard to knit with an IV in your hand. But I’m doing better, and spent the entire day today working on my Drops cardigan. Tomorrow, I’ll have a rundown on the modifications and scary bits, but for now, [...]

Wool on a hot day
Work on the Drops 97-24 continues, despite the fact that this is one of the hottest days in Western Washington history. Thankfully, I’ve progressed to the sleeve, so I don’t have to hold the body in my lap anymore. I’m enjoying the process. Colorwork on DPNs is something new to me. It’s somthing of a [...]

Ahh, Drops…
The Norwegian yarn company DROPS Garnstudio is definitely the place to go for free patterns of the Scandinavian type. This, as anyone who has every been to an Ikea knows, is either very plain or very strange. In the interests of full disclosure, I’ll freely admit that my entire living room is decorated with Ikea [...]

Sewing a zipper into a handknitted sweater
Now, I’m not a purist when it comes to my knitting. I will fudge numbers, stray outside the pattern, or make things up as I go along. But I’m more than a little apprehensive about putting my knitting through a sewing machine. Two words: feed dogs. Feed dogs are those little thingies under the presser [...]

We have a sweater!
Or at least very nearly so. The knitting is complete, the hems have been sewn on the sleeves, all that remains is the uber-scary steeking and zipper-sewing. But never fear, I have called in the expert.

Locked and Loaded
We have sleeve joinage. Also, a DNA cabley-thing in a band around the chest. Tim is starting to believe he may have a sweater at the end of this.

Flying Off the Needles
Well, this is surprising. Tim’s sweater seems to be progressing nicely, thanks to worsted weight yarn, stockinette, and Elizabeth Zimmerman. I’ve got both sleeves done up to the underarm and 11 inches of the body, including a 1.5 inch faced hem. I love the look of a faced hem in knitting, especially for men’s knits. [...]

His arms are 20 inches long
These are 11″, so far. I’ve got 8″ to go up to the underarm, and then I’ll come back and do a 1″ hemmed cuff.
