Chicken and Fresh Herb Dumplings
I’m not putting this on Tasty Kitchen, since it’s not very original, but it’s one of my very favorite cold-weather dishes. As this is the first truly wet and wild day we’ve had since we’ve been back in the States, it seemed like the perfect time for an old favorite. (Does anyone know how to [...]

DIY Cradle Sheets
Making a fitted sheet isn’t very difficult, if you remember to give yourself enough extra fabric to extend down to the bottom of the mattress all the way around. I cut my fabric 7″ wider and longer than the mattress measurements, and I could probably have added another inch to make it really secure.
1. Cut [...]

How to make a mattress
What do you do when you have a non-standard-sized cradle for your quickly approaching baby? Well, if you’re me, you make a custom-sized mattress and sheets for it. If you’re me, you also photograph said process, with the intent of putting up a tutorial on your blog. If you’re me, you also forget to photograph [...]

Copper-Sulfur Reaction
Ivory glass has sulfur in it, and turquoise and some green glasses have copper. When the two are used together, as in this set of beads, a black line will develop between the two colors, and the edges of dots or lines may fray a little, giving the beads an antique look.
These beads have a [...]

Tamales
Last week, in my ongoing pursuit of a full freezer, my Mom and I made tamales. We used Tamales 101, which is a great book with lots of options, and nothing too fancy or fusion. No sushi tamales here, just tasty Mexican and South American goodness.
We made 84 tamales altogether, a pitifully small number compared [...]

Blue and White Set
This set is my most successful so far, made with white, clear, transparent pale blue, black, and beautiful, beautiful Vetrofond Odd Lot Streaky Sapphire.
I actually got the clear to work for me without scumming or burning by turning my torch way down and working far out in the flame. It’s slow, but it works.

Walk 4 Us
Tim is running in the Walk 4 Us 5k at Pt. Defiance in two weeks. Make a donation to help buy ultrasound machines so that girls can see their babies! Having seen my little guy three times so far, I know what a difference it could make to the life of a child and a [...]

The Mirror Crack’d
The mirror crack’d from side to side
The curse has come upon me, cried
The Lady of Shalott
-Alfred, Lord Tennyson
-(or, if you prefer, Agatha Christie)
I initially titled this post “compatibility issues,” but I really hate the current usage of the word “issues” in that sort of context. I fall into it from time to time, because I [...]

Lampwork, Nothing But Lampwork
To the tune of the Star Wars theme. I’ve been busy.
Spacers, striped spacers (practicing stringer control), and various ill-advised efforts at fanciness. All in Effetre from my practice glass stash. Nothing is annealed yet because the kiln is at my parent’s house, and we still have to figure out how to use it. For now, [...]

Horseshoe Lampwork Bracelet, Part 2
Please ignore the puffy pregnant hand. Focus on the bracelet.
The fun part about this bracelet is that it looks like it should fall apart, because of the open horseshoes, but if you make your twisted loops smaller than the flared ends of the links, it’s perfectly secure. Now, for the assembly.
1. Using the 24 gague [...]
