The End of Knitting
Also, sewing. Also, cooking. And relationships. And personal hygiene.
I got my propane tank, my 5′ hose, my vermiculite, and I’m off to the races. In pursuit of actually, you know, getting good at this, I’m starting with the “100 spacers” theory. Those who know say that if you make 100 spacers, by the end you’ll be able to make a good base bead every time. I think I believe it. I made 10 today, and intend to make 10 each day for the next 10 torching days.
Lest you think I’m some kind of prodigy, these aren’t my first beads. My mother and I used to torch way back when I was in high school, though I never put much systematic thought or effort into it. This time, I intend to succeed.
In addition to the spacers, I made a few more interesting, though less successful, beads of various kinds. I’m going to have to buckle down and work on dots and stringer for a while so I can actually make the glass do what I want it to do.
I’ll keep you posted on my progress. If I can tear myself away from the torch.
